July 19th - They Say It's My Birthday!

This Reminds My of My Sassy Mom
No Wise Words, Just Crab Legs and Cake
Nothing heavy and wise tonight, it's my birthday tomorrow, and my brain is on a day off.
After a week of reflecting on the shopping trio of Mom, a guide dog, and a sarcastic teen, remembering a Dad who "did" and "gave" at every turn, walking fast through the memory lane of foster care, remembering my brother who traveled the world and held nuclear reactors together with band aids and bubble gum off the coast of Italy, and then being afraid of the boogey men who have invaded our storage site at night causing us to repair storage unit doors that were vandalilzed by less than good citizens, mending leaky roofs and worrying about weak front doors that could be kicked in with barely a puff, and in spite of it all, enjoying our beautiful blooms, watching the zoo of politics, and writing hubs about my life and lessons learned...
I'm exhausted with what wisdom came to visit and went into my pre-birthday dinner with a bit of soberness, but peace.
When my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday. I had no answer. Walking through the week, I pondered and thought. I had most of what I needed, a lot of what I wanted, and though I could always add to the list, I decided not to.
I decided that "gratitude" was more important than "add - i - tude."
A few days later, I turned to Lynn and said "For my birthday, I want to have my cake and eat it, too."
He stared.
Let him figure that one out.
Today, he came back with 2 small chocolate layer cakes and a birthday card to end all. The card I'll keep private, but the cake was for sharing.
We're going to Clearwater to be with 2 of our sons for dinner. I wanted to share the cake, but I knew if I took one, it would either be gobbled up at dinner, or go home with them afterwards.
Either way I'd be out of birthday cake.
So, in keeping with my belief that one CAN have their cake and eat it "two" Lynn proved me right.
We'll leave one cake here, and take one to dinner, thus when I come home, I will have eaten my birthday cake, and have it too.
Ah, a perfect gift. And, I am grateful for lessons past, present, and MAYBE future, but let us not tempt fate.
Tonight, we went out to eat crab legs. Lynn cracked and passed the sweet little white meat to me, I dipped the bites in butter and ate. You can't get mad at a guy that cracks the crab legs and passes over forkfull's of flavor.
Well, I could, I'm sure I could think of SOMETHING, =) but it will wait 'til tomorrow. Or, maybe I'll forget thinking of something to gripe about entirely. I'm in a pretty generous mood for an old lady.
Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to Me. (And you and you and you)
and to all a good night.
I am Marisue, and I write, but not tonight.

Happy Birthday! - Deb
Marisue, I do hope you have a very happy birthday.
No point in counting. You will only be as old as you act and feel. And the younger you think, the younger you will act and therefore be. Always think young ... and you will be.
Happy Birthday.
seems to me you did thing of something to write, and I for one enjoyed it! Happy, Happy Birthday to YOU!

Happy Birthday Marisue. Watched all your birthday videos. Loved them all but I especially loved the Boom-De-Yada song in your favorite video commercial. I learned and sang that song a kazillion times in the fifth grade. Today I made your recipe 'the cooker cake' or 'The Sexiest Cake I Ever Ate'. What a coincidence that I made this on your birthday. Who Knew! I'm sorry to say it's ALL Gone or I would have saved you a piece. (I owe you one) That was easy to make and oh sooo verrry yummmy! Many other variations to definately try. Well hope you enjoyed your birthday and your dinner out with your family.
Marisue, I almost forgot to tell you that I saw a birthday gift for you at this hub:

And yes I will go to the cake hub and report my yummy findings.
Hey M, HAPPY BIRTHDAY... again. Are you watching Geena Davis movies?
Good for you. You're gonna love those movies, and so will the hubby, if he watches, too.
A belated HAPPY Birthday to you Marisue!
Carol
Happy Birthday! July 19th is also the anniversary of my lovely wife and I.
Happy Birthday Marisue... I always get confused with the time difference across the miles and seas. As you eat your cake, may it simply remind you of life's sweetness and the gift of sharing lovely moments with those you love. Best wishes and lots of hugs to you.... take care
