Where O Where Has Palin Gone?

She's Falling!

Drop Out Palin - Drop Out!

Palin is not giving any more interviews...for how long we're not sure, but there isn't much time left before voting, so why have they taken her off the political talk circuit? As if we didn't know. She's probably crying from relief.

Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and Katie Couric have revealed a scared, tightly tense, extremely unqualified Vice Presidential candidate, who's very naive, and perhaps not very smart.

Why does it even matter? Why do we care if our Vice President has a brain? Why is it important that they are informed about geography, history, communication, the world? (Not to mention in possession of a less shrill voice...)

Do you get the impression, with all her "gonna do's" that she doesn't realize the Republicans have been in office the last 8 years, creating the problems she said they're "gonna" solve? Did she just wake up?

Raising Palin Will Take Too Much Time

Raisin' Palin

If we weren't in such dire straits as a country, with critical situations around the world demanding our attention, I could feel sorry for her. We just don't have time for raising Palin. When you think about North Korea's finger getting closer to the nuke button, Iran playing cat and mouse with their nukes, Pakistan not supporting us with the hunt for Bin Laden, Russia shoving their weight around, Georgia in trouble and demanding protection and money, the US owing China a debt it might take decades to repay, it's difficult to feel sorry for a woman who should have said "Thanks, but No Thanks" to the VP nomination.

America has real problems, problems that far outweigh

the ego of Sarah Palin.

Therefore, her personal suffering cannot take precedence

over our country.

Country, first, as McCain says, which translates as "McCain first."

The Holiday Inn Express Degree of Sarah Palin

O For The Love Of Country

If she loves her country and especially her family, the best thing Sarah Palin can do is drop out of the race. In my lifetime, I cannot remember a candidate causing so much embarrassment to the country or a political ticket. Her brashness, her determination to show politcal acumen where it does not exist is like watching someone slice their own throat. It's an extremely painful observation; surely she is suffering behind the scenes?

As she talks through gritted teeth saying "well it certainly does..." speaking of Putin "rearing his head" and "flying over US air space via Alaska," which then gives her foreign experience, we all want to scream "she didn't just say that." Has she no shame? Are the Republicans even listening? Are they dying by degrees?.

We are.

The human side of me worries "This woman has embarrassed herself in front of the world. If she leaves quickly, the world and America just might forget about her, MIGHT." I even worry she might try to do something to herself. Politics is brutal. Even my remarks have not been kind, as I'm just so shocked with her behavior, her comments, her lies.

Speaking of shocking behavior, McCain's lack of respect to an opposing candidate at last night's debate was despicable. He "hogged" the time, overtalked Obama, was accusatory, and vague in his remarks about the economy. We could tell Obama had professional manners, an intelligence regarding world concerns, renewable energy, and the economy. Obama missed many opportunities to attack McCain's own record of earmarking funds and voting on billions of dollars worth of bills containing "pork."

McCain is part of the problem, not the solution. When McCain mentioned he would hold people accountable for their actions and votes when he was President, I nearly fainted. Then, I started yelling at the TV and even my dog barked.

If John McCain is so interested in "accountability," I've got a suggestion for him. Why doesn't he start with telling Palin to cooperate in Alaska's investigation of her accepting gifts while governor, timed right before and after certain bills were passed and for "firing" her public safety commissioner? Her being held accountable for her actions could set a great example, so why not start with instructing her to answer her supeonas?

That's too easy. He doesn't mean accountability for his people...just others. Democrats probably.

His own party members have spoken out about his presence in Washington and how it did not help reach any kind of decision on the bail out. McCain's little grand stand rush to Capitol Hill has backfired and made him look shallow and self-serving.

Palin was obviously chosen to give the Republican ticket a shade of glamour, Stinky Pink in my view, and it has become hard to determine who is holding whom up: Palin helping McCain, or McCain helping Palin. McCain appeared angry, shaky, insulting, condescending and it did not serve him well. Palin's interviews have become a mockery of the US office of second in command. They are full of shallow, rambling answers to even the simplest of questions. Palin Pales, McCain blathers, we're all losing.

As Jack Cafferty has said, if this doesn't scare the hell out of you, what will.

Paying $100 for every lie or repeated lie of Sarah Palin while she's campaigning, Keith Olbermann has currently donated $3700 to the Alaskan Special Olympic's Fund. Her recent removal from press access since the Katie Curic interview may save him further expense. Olbermann also stumped as guest for McCain's no show with David Letterman. McCain lied to Letterman so blatantly, adding another example of his impulsivity and "me-ism" to an already long list.

Hope

This race is pathetic and comical at the same time. If anyone was undecided last night, I hope they feel better about choosing Obama today. I'm so pleased that Obama's poll numbers are so high!! My hope is climbing; November might turn the light in the tunnel to a higher watt.

Marisue, I had lots of similar thoughts last night--thank you for writing about your reactions. I wonder if they will actually let Palin debate Joe Biden. They have to know that there is no way that will help McCain's campaign. I was shocked last night at how rude and surly McCain was. I had a very hard time even listening to him or looking at him. He was so massively rude to Obama. I mean, he doesn't have to come out and hug Obama, but it seemed like he saw him as beneath contempt--you could feel the hate emanating off of McCain. I gotta think that put a lot of folks off. I found it hard to watch.

I hate to even say it but I am actually starting to feel kind of sorry for Palin. Not sorry enough to LIKE her, but still, it's kind of horrifying, watching her fumble and be such a ditz and such a target of ridicule. It's as if, by putting Palin in this harsh spotlight and showing her inadequacy and stupidity to the world he is slapping all women in the face, saying, "See, this all you are: A bunch of dumb vaginas with air between your ears." I'm not saying that makes rational sense--it's just how it feels to me.

I really am starting to hate McCain. I mean, I don't just disagree with him, I'm starting to find him repellent and evil.

Thanks for the hub. We're on the same page with this.

Hi Pam, if Palin has a tenth of a brain, she's got to feel as though she's being paraded around naked on a corner in the red light district of the world....Like the Truman show, she's an experiment, totally not respected by her own party, who is using her.

I understand your feelings, I kept yelling at the TV, got the dog upset, and my husband had fallen asleep in the debate and awoke to my stomping and ranting.

Hurray for the opinion of the good smart citizens of America, they did not swallow the hogwash of McCain's Sputtering.  He was very rude and I think your hub about the racism is so on target and wasn't it evident last night?   SO obvious!

I'm feeling sorry for Palin and should swear off more mocking of her, - and if they will take her from the ticket, and quit letting her shrill voice break my eardrums, I will.   LOL  not.

There is LIGHT in the tunnel!!

I always appreciate your comments, Pam!!

It frightens me enormously that there are so many women in this country who will continue to support Palin and McCain, and eventually vote for them as well.

I have to ask these women, how can you respect yourselves when the model that is being held up to you, the supposed best of the best for the second in command position, is a woman who was chosen not because she is experienced (which she is not), not because she is honest (which she is not), not because she has insights into the crushing issues that are dragging our country down internally and externally (which she doesn't), but because she is a good looking, hopeful, energetic member of the female sex who has credentials in the motherhood and church departments and who is allowing her womanhood to be used, in a most sexually discriminatory way, on the arm of McCain so that he can further his political aspirations.  In this country, an important element of the culture kit for men succeeding big-time in big-business is a pretty young woman in the office.

I do feel compassion for Palin.  I sincerely believe she didn't know what she was walking into.  She had a stellar rise in her state, but that was not enough to give her the life experience to ward off being used as a Barbie doll.  I wish she had been blatently sexually harrassed and discriminated against on several of her jobs, so that she could have read the tea leaves this time around and realize she is being used.

The hole thing is scary. Though I know that voting Obama is the best thing to do considering what could happen, (dear God I hope not!) but I am pretty much banking on if Obama gets elected he will get the gak if you know what I mean. I hope not though.

This election is much to "weird" for my taste. Circumstance after circumstance, and the "coincidental" economy failure at the same time Palin accepts her invitatin to run with McCain. Thier inability to answer questions, random firings, Oh God! AND THE LIES!

I still can't get over how people openly want a lier in office. What is even scarier which I am sure you know, is all the "religous" types declaring the end, or the prophecy or saying these awful things about protecting them that the devil is destroying thier characters.

Marisue!!!! Noooooo!!!! The world has gone inane. I hope thier is a light at the end of the tunnel too but it is looking like a very dim one since we are out of oil, energy, natural resources, global warming is a bitch, no money to pay for the energy to light the light, no jobs to make the lights and all that is left is a bunch of incredibly gullable people who are williing to let it fall to "satan' if you will, because thier Lord Jesus Christ told them so. (hope I didn't offend you there with that remark)

Hi Sally's Trove!! I am frightened, too. Women are so eager to get into the White House, they may be blindsighted by this candidate. It's becoming more obvious to the majority - I think - that she is used, therefore abused, by the system. We need to give her a break, and let her go back to her life; facing whatever issues she will now have due to the bright, even glaring, eyes of the media.

My sympathies are awakened - and yet I'm scared that there is a chance of us being under the rule of a rather scarey woman, given her persuasions both religiously and what little political prowess she has shown.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, as always!!

Hi Sandra, certainly no offense taken by me.  Many wrongs are committed by those screaming "God God."  To me, the end is always near, as it's just the beginning of something else.  =))

Crazy people try to "rush" the end by causing this or that to happen, dang, can't they just live their life and let God take care of the "when?"  I have enough to do just planning dinner!!   ya know?

But, no, there's always the over zealous religious radical that thinks they can be part of the universe drama if they provoke the happenings.  Leave Evil alone, I say, it does just fine without any help.

We can make it - hang on tight to doing good deeds, helping turn your neck of the woods a little greener, it's contagious. " Kay sara sara"   if the end were near, how could we stop it?  The strongest power we possess is to change the world by adding good.

If I had to choose a side, that would be it.  Color me on the side of "good."  At least I try...and speaking out for common sense is one thing I can do.  maybe it's just a drop in the bucket, but add another drop and another, the bucket fills.

Oh, so much for philosophy, eh? =))  drop in again, Sandra!!

I really have very little at all to add to this Marisue. You have said everything I can remember thinking about these two over the last couple of days or even the last week or so. And, you've said it better than I would have.

The one thing I can add possibly is that what Obama lacks in experience or direct knowledge, or even what he may currently think that might actually be incorrect, he has an abundance of intellect, integrity and flexibility so that he will be able to learn quickly and adapt his ideas to do what needs to be done. McCain and certainly not Palin are both intellectually challenged and inflexible. They are defensive, selfish, and refuse to admit they are wrong, even when it is patently obvious.

Vis-a-vis: Obama has admitted to being wrong about the surge in Iraq, while keeping it in perspective that we should never have invaded the country in the first place, and should be getting out ASAP. Also, during the debate, he said "you're right" to McCain 12 times, while McCain never said it once to Obama. Obama learns, McCain doesn't.

Surely America will elect the team most able to actual perform their jobs, and McCain and Palin can go back to doing whatever mavericks do, while Obama and Biden take on the awesome, complex tasks that face them over the next 4 years.

If McCain believes in accountability, the citizens of Arizona should demand he resign. He has not cast a vote in the US Senate in 5 months. Should he be held accountable for all the lies he has told during this campaign. He has run a dis-information campaign but what could you expect? He hired the same team that smeared him when he was running against Bush for his parties nomination.

I cannot believe that there are still undecided voters out there. What more do you have to hear people?

I can't believe she will go through with the debate...if she doesn't resign for personal reasons, then maybe she will get laryngitis.Great hub!

Not a lot to add as I'm in full agreement. One thing that does sadden me is that in some quarters Obama's high inteligence and academic succeses are sneered at.

Well here's my radical thought - what's so wrong with having an intelligent President for a change? It's not as if the dim one has done especially well in office.

You raise very relevant points Marisue. McCain often claims he'd rather lose the election than the war which be extrapolation means he'd rather lose the election and do right by America. With this choice of Veep, I wonder. His campaign got the jolt and that's all that matters. And I strongly agree with Paraglider above - what's wrong with intelligence. is this not the United States the greatest nation in the world. Why should it be led by the best and brightest. Why this fascination with mediocrity?

Great Hub... as usual! It really frightens me that she would be second in command and the next in line should 72 year old McCain's health falter. It was a smart move by McCain to use Paulin because she panders to the hard core right wing and she has the sex appeal to pander to moderate men. Now if only she had a brain!

Can you believe she said her foreign policy credentials were bolstered by being able to see Russia from her home in Alaska? My Gosh what is going to happen to our beloved country if McPaulin wins?

hi Joe Doe, so good to see you on my hub again! You are very right to be worried should she gain access to the oval office, or even the VP. By her own words, by none other - she hangs herself and gives us many reasons to shake our heads in shock and awe, her own party leaders are worried about what they have done with their impulsivity. they forgot about the brain part of the requirement for the office of VP.

However, in her own defense, she's probably very smart in other "rooms" of life...just not the VP room. I'm giving her a lot by assuming she's smart somewhere, granted. But, I'm trying to be kind. Most smart people would be able to notice their own limitations. Put me in the CEO boardroom of EXXON and I'd faint, but put me in a seminar talking to people about child abuse and families in crisis, and I'm almost brilliant. LOL

How come we get that and some people want her regardless of the evidence of her ignorance of the issues of our country? Sigh. She should wear a lable that says, "I can too do it, no proof required.'

Hi Paraglider, we must have intelligence. Good hub, Marisue. I watched the debate, not sure what to expect, but excited about it none-the-less. To be honest, I thought McCain performed more intelligently than I had expected him to (I guess because of his connection with Bush), but he clearly revealed himself as an Old School and More of the Same candidate. Obama out-classed him, and out-smarted him, at every turn!

And I would LOVE to see a debate between Biden and Palin! This would take her out of the picture once and for all.

marisuewrites profile image

marisuewrites Hub Author 3 years ago

Hi Constant!! good to see you! Yes, I agree, McCain was a bit more prepared than I thought he would be. He's easily flustered and Obama was far too good to him. I don't think Obama will be saying "McCain is right" next debate!! This is not College!! Knock him out, Obama! LOL

I agree, Obama had class, but he was not as passionate as he is on the road. Still - polls show him surging ahead. I don't see how anyone, who reads McCain's 26 year record, listens to him grand stand and speak his fabrications, and then listens to Palin, would then turn around and vote for these two. But, for some people, evidence has no strength, truth does not matter and is not even recognized, they just want the Republicans back in - like the last 8 years was all the Democrats fault.

I stand amazed...but it is their right - as is mine to go the other way. =))

They have no clue what being a President requires.  Al Qaeda believe in God.  They also believe in forcing others to believe.  Or live their way.  "God" forbid.

These are people who have become so comfortable in their individual right, that they do not know what it consists of, nor how it came to be.  Their right to believe, includes the right of others, NOT to believe.  Their right to believe in their style and personal manner, includes the right for others to be different yet still be classified as believers.

The rights of the individual, are supposed to be sacred in this country, but no, "they" those radical "Christians" want to force their brand of religion on society.  I am not against faith, I have faith, but I understand that I'm allowed to practice it because of the freedom for others not to do so.

Sheeeesh.  That is so basic, it's hard to understand how so many can not see it and pass right by it, thinking if we'd just make people read the Bible and say prayers in school and teach creationism, the world would be better.  Never mind the fact that there are 1000's of religions that differ each from the other just based on the Bible alone and if we say a prayer in school, shall it be the Satanist prayer?  They have one, or shall we bow to the East as do the Muslims?  Which prayer and who shall decide??  None in school I say, say it before you leave the house, and leave the public schools free from prejudice.

And which version of creationism shall we learn....there are many.  Who will decide, and who wants that argument??  Not I, as a teacher it was hard enough to teach reading, let alone all the other subjective issues.

sorry, on a soap box today.  LOL

Reminds me of a time when I worked at a child care ranch as a house parent, and we were required to attend the ranch Church. The way they prayed was so foreign to me, they waved their arms in the air, leaned in with their hands extended palm up to the one being prayed over, I was really uncomfortable. Our style of praying was to stand or kneel or sit reverently, arms folded, not all this hopping and jumping and leaning.

It was ok, but why force it on me? We lose that if we bring God into the schools or President's office "officially." If it's ok for them to force me, then it will be ok for me to force them to pray my way, it will be ok for the Satanist to force us as they have their moment...you let one, you must let them all. But, these well-meaning people who do not understand separation of Church and State will tell you just how God is this or that, never realizing there are different views of "god" and how to believe. grrr

marisuewrites,

Mrs. Palin vs Joe Biden will be an interesting debate to be sure. I think you are overplaying her negatives, but she is inexperienced and fumbled during her latest interview. Please remember, though, if Biden doesn't show well in the interview, Mrs. Palin will once again be in the spotlight. Her recent demise has much more to do with the dominance of the economic meltdown, than a bad performance in an interview. As for the debate between McCain and Obama, I felt at best it was a draw. Stylistically Obama was much better, but I felt McCain was better on the issues (better in this case meaning more specific).   Over all I don't think the debate changed anyone's opinion.   McCain has not been able to diminsh Obama's lead and I don't foresee it happening in the future (unless there is some large international crisis).  I believe you will get your wish, Obama will be the next president.

Thanks for the hub,

sschilke, we're not going to be out of the woods with any candidate at this time. We've got so many deep problems, it's going to be very hard economically and regarding possible future wars. We are in tumultuous times either way.

I feel very concerned for Sarah as a human being on the planet. If any of us stepped into a surgery room, with a Dr's surgery coat on, it would still not qualify us to perform the surgery, and she is in that position. Doesn't make her stupid in all areas of her life, yet why has she not been able to say "I'm not up to speed on the issues, but I am studying them." We could at least have respected that.

Her statements, in my view, were very scarey. Again, I would not perform brain surgery on anyone, and I think the Republicans are asking us to go under the knife with her...knowing she's not a Doctor. It's not fair to her, nor the nation and therefore not the world. Many Republicans are calling for her to step down, tho' it is a low rumble and won't happen. They made a huge mistake, and she for accepting. It's sad, but we have to think of the country at this time.

Again, there are no easy solutions. I have decided to not criticize her anymore, as I hate to kick anyone when they are down. At least, I am going to try very hard, unless something drastic happens, =)

I missed her interviews in their entirety live (Oh, she has earned the right to be referred to only by pronoun) but saw clips of them on other various shows and YouTube. Honestly, a bad interview is a bad interview however we try to excuse it. When you are unprepared, it shows.

marisuewrites profile image

marisuewrites Hub Author 3 years ago

You know, PenmanZee, what I really believe, from all my living, all my experiences, all my ability to judge a moment, analyze a situation, figure out a problem, I believe tho' her nomination is probably deviously contrived, her problem with the public and interview and speeches is this:  She just keeps tripping over her ego and her narrow vision.  Any person, from her background, would know they were out of their league and they would have said something like "Thank you, I'm honored for the request, but I am not ready for this position.  Our country has need for the most qualified person, and it is not me."  She could have been a hero.  Instead, she has seemed quite foolish.  Americans cannot afford more fools in the White House.  As bad as it sounds, Bush has been one.  Is it more wrong for me to call him one, than it has been for him to be one?  Are some of us not getting upset at the wrong thing?  To be mad over the word "stupid" or "fool?"  When it applies, it is right to use it.  I don't belittle the office of the VP or President by labeling a behavior.  I spent 20+ years labeling behaviors....analyzing, describing, judging, making decisions, all in order to help those behaviors change.  But you cannot change that which you cannot name.

AA 's first step is admission and giving what one has, a name.  "Hi My name is blank, and I am an alcoholic."  George Bush knows that step.  There is no shame in knowing that step, the shame comes from denying that the step is necessary, when it is.  The shame is "repairable."  Change it, confess that you are what you are, and move on.

Palin needs to admit she's got a lot to learn, and take what comes from it.  She won't though.  And, others will continue to blame those who call her behavior what it is, instead of allowing her to own the problem.  Her behavior, she owns it.  It's not name-calling.  It's not ranting unnecessarily.  We have only to watch the meltdown of our economy and budgets to see just how important it is that we analyze and name behaviors of our elected officicals, or those who are applying for the job.

If we can't name a behavior, how can it be changed, improved, or even accepted?  Smart?  She is not behaving smart!  sigh.  I do tend to go on...=))  I hope I can live up to my goal of not writing a new criticism of her.  I guess this one might have to get longer  >lol<
