Where O Where Has Palin Gone?
57She's Falling!
Drop Out Palin - Drop Out!
Palin is not giving any more interviews...for how long we're not sure, but there isn't much time left before voting, so why have they taken her off the political talk circuit? As if we didn't know. She's probably crying from relief.
Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and Katie Couric have revealed a scared, tightly tense, extremely unqualified Vice Presidential candidate, who's very naive, and perhaps not very smart.
Why does it even matter? Why do we care if our Vice President has a brain? Why is it important that they are informed about geography, history, communication, the world? (Not to mention in possession of a less shrill voice...)
Do you get the impression, with all her "gonna do's" that she doesn't realize the Republicans have been in office the last 8 years, creating the problems she said they're "gonna" solve? Did she just wake up?
Raising Palin Will Take Too Much Time
Raisin' Palin
If we weren't in such dire straits as a country, with critical situations around the world demanding our attention, I could feel sorry for her. We just don't have time for raising Palin. When you think about North Korea's finger getting closer to the nuke button, Iran playing cat and mouse with their nukes, Pakistan not supporting us with the hunt for Bin Laden, Russia shoving their weight around, Georgia in trouble and demanding protection and money, the US owing China a debt it might take decades to repay, it's difficult to feel sorry for a woman who should have said "Thanks, but No Thanks" to the VP nomination.
America has real problems, problems that far outweigh
the ego of Sarah Palin.
Therefore, her personal suffering cannot take precedence
over our country.
Country, first, as McCain says, which translates as "McCain first."
The Holiday Inn Express Degree of Sarah Palin
O For The Love Of Country
If she loves her country and especially her family, the best thing Sarah Palin can do is drop out of the race. In my lifetime, I cannot remember a candidate causing so much embarrassment to the country or a political ticket. Her brashness, her determination to show politcal acumen where it does not exist is like watching someone slice their own throat. It's an extremely painful observation; surely she is suffering behind the scenes?
As she talks through gritted teeth saying "well it certainly does..." speaking of Putin "rearing his head" and "flying over US air space via Alaska," which then gives her foreign experience, we all want to scream "she didn't just say that." Has she no shame? Are the Republicans even listening? Are they dying by degrees?.
We are.
The human side of me worries "This woman has embarrassed herself in front of the world. If she leaves quickly, the world and America just might forget about her, MIGHT." I even worry she might try to do something to herself. Politics is brutal. Even my remarks have not been kind, as I'm just so shocked with her behavior, her comments, her lies.
Speaking of shocking behavior, McCain's lack of respect to an opposing candidate at last night's debate was despicable. He "hogged" the time, overtalked Obama, was accusatory, and vague in his remarks about the economy. We could tell Obama had professional manners, an intelligence regarding world concerns, renewable energy, and the economy. Obama missed many opportunities to attack McCain's own record of earmarking funds and voting on billions of dollars worth of bills containing "pork."
McCain is part of the problem, not the solution. When McCain mentioned he would hold people accountable for their actions and votes when he was President, I nearly fainted. Then, I started yelling at the TV and even my dog barked.
If John McCain is so interested in "accountability," I've got a suggestion for him. Why doesn't he start with telling Palin to cooperate in Alaska's investigation of her accepting gifts while governor, timed right before and after certain bills were passed and for "firing" her public safety commissioner? Her being held accountable for her actions could set a great example, so why not start with instructing her to answer her supeonas?
That's too easy. He doesn't mean accountability for his people...just others. Democrats probably.
His own party members have spoken out about his presence in Washington and how it did not help reach any kind of decision on the bail out. McCain's little grand stand rush to Capitol Hill has backfired and made him look shallow and self-serving.
Palin was obviously chosen to give the Republican ticket a shade of glamour, Stinky Pink in my view, and it has become hard to determine who is holding whom up: Palin helping McCain, or McCain helping Palin. McCain appeared angry, shaky, insulting, condescending and it did not serve him well. Palin's interviews have become a mockery of the US office of second in command. They are full of shallow, rambling answers to even the simplest of questions. Palin Pales, McCain blathers, we're all losing.
As Jack Cafferty has said, if this doesn't scare the hell out of you, what will.
Paying $100 for every lie or repeated lie of Sarah Palin while she's campaigning, Keith Olbermann has currently donated $3700 to the Alaskan Special Olympic's Fund. Her recent removal from press access since the Katie Curic interview may save him further expense. Olbermann also stumped as guest for McCain's no show with David Letterman. McCain lied to Letterman so blatantly, adding another example of his impulsivity and "me-ism" to an already long list.
Hope
This race is pathetic and comical at the same time. If anyone was undecided last night, I hope they feel better about choosing Obama today. I'm so pleased that Obama's poll numbers are so high!! My hope is climbing; November might turn the light in the tunnel to a higher watt.

It frightens me enormously that there are so many women in this country who will continue to support Palin and McCain, and eventually vote for them as well.
I have to ask these women, how can you respect yourselves when the model that is being held up to you, the supposed best of the best for the second in command position, is a woman who was chosen not because she is experienced (which she is not), not because she is honest (which she is not), not because she has insights into the crushing issues that are dragging our country down internally and externally (which she doesn't), but because she is a good looking, hopeful, energetic member of the female sex who has credentials in the motherhood and church departments and who is allowing her womanhood to be used, in a most sexually discriminatory way, on the arm of McCain so that he can further his political aspirations. In this country, an important element of the culture kit for men succeeding big-time in big-business is a pretty young woman in the office.
I do feel compassion for Palin. I sincerely believe she didn't know what she was walking into. She had a stellar rise in her state, but that was not enough to give her the life experience to ward off being used as a Barbie doll. I wish she had been blatently sexually harrassed and discriminated against on several of her jobs, so that she could have read the tea leaves this time around and realize she is being used.
The hole thing is scary. Though I know that voting Obama is the best thing to do considering what could happen, (dear God I hope not!) but I am pretty much banking on if Obama gets elected he will get the gak if you know what I mean. I hope not though.
This election is much to "weird" for my taste. Circumstance after circumstance, and the "coincidental" economy failure at the same time Palin accepts her invitatin to run with McCain. Thier inability to answer questions, random firings, Oh God! AND THE LIES!
I still can't get over how people openly want a lier in office. What is even scarier which I am sure you know, is all the "religous" types declaring the end, or the prophecy or saying these awful things about protecting them that the devil is destroying thier characters.
Marisue!!!! Noooooo!!!! The world has gone inane. I hope thier is a light at the end of the tunnel too but it is looking like a very dim one since we are out of oil, energy, natural resources, global warming is a bitch, no money to pay for the energy to light the light, no jobs to make the lights and all that is left is a bunch of incredibly gullable people who are williing to let it fall to "satan' if you will, because thier Lord Jesus Christ told them so. (hope I didn't offend you there with that remark)

about sums it up for me...
I really have very little at all to add to this Marisue. You have said everything I can remember thinking about these two over the last couple of days or even the last week or so. And, you've said it better than I would have.
The one thing I can add possibly is that what Obama lacks in experience or direct knowledge, or even what he may currently think that might actually be incorrect, he has an abundance of intellect, integrity and flexibility so that he will be able to learn quickly and adapt his ideas to do what needs to be done. McCain and certainly not Palin are both intellectually challenged and inflexible. They are defensive, selfish, and refuse to admit they are wrong, even when it is patently obvious.
Vis-a-vis: Obama has admitted to being wrong about the surge in Iraq, while keeping it in perspective that we should never have invaded the country in the first place, and should be getting out ASAP. Also, during the debate, he said "you're right" to McCain 12 times, while McCain never said it once to Obama. Obama learns, McCain doesn't.
Surely America will elect the team most able to actual perform their jobs, and McCain and Palin can go back to doing whatever mavericks do, while Obama and Biden take on the awesome, complex tasks that face them over the next 4 years.
Here's a bit of humor for you, marisue!
If McCain believes in accountability, the citizens of Arizona should demand he resign. He has not cast a vote in the US Senate in 5 months. Should he be held accountable for all the lies he has told during this campaign. He has run a dis-information campaign but what could you expect? He hired the same team that smeared him when he was running against Bush for his parties nomination.
I cannot believe that there are still undecided voters out there. What more do you have to hear people?
I can't believe she will go through with the debate...if she doesn't resign for personal reasons, then maybe she will get laryngitis.Great hub!
Palin's on "THAT BRIDGE TO NOWHERE," where the frozen tundra curls your toes and gives you "Brain Freeze!" Her interviews sound like she never graduated Middle School, but she did graduate Moose School however.
Not a lot to add as I'm in full agreement. One thing that does sadden me is that in some quarters Obama's high inteligence and academic succeses are sneered at.
Well here's my radical thought - what's so wrong with having an intelligent President for a change? It's not as if the dim one has done especially well in office.
You raise very relevant points Marisue. McCain often claims he'd rather lose the election than the war which be extrapolation means he'd rather lose the election and do right by America. With this choice of Veep, I wonder. His campaign got the jolt and that's all that matters. And I strongly agree with Paraglider above - what's wrong with intelligence. is this not the United States the greatest nation in the world. Why should it be led by the best and brightest. Why this fascination with mediocrity?
Pardon me, I meant to say above, why shouldn't the U.S be led by the best and the brightest? (Above)
Marisue,
Great Hub... as usual! It really frightens me that she would be second in command and the next in line should 72 year old McCain's health falter. It was a smart move by McCain to use Paulin because she panders to the hard core right wing and she has the sex appeal to pander to moderate men. Now if only she had a brain!
Can you believe she said her foreign policy credentials were bolstered by being able to see Russia from her home in Alaska? My Gosh what is going to happen to our beloved country if McPaulin wins?
LOL...that elvis video adds a nice touch!
Good hub, Marisue. I watched the debate, not sure what to expect, but excited about it none-the-less. To be honest, I thought McCain performed more intelligently than I had expected him to (I guess because of his connection with Bush), but he clearly revealed himself as an Old School and More of the Same candidate. Obama out-classed him, and out-smarted him, at every turn!
And I would LOVE to see a debate between Biden and Palin! This would take her out of the picture once and for all.
I've heard women say, and I'm not making this up, "So long as they're" (meaning the candidates) "Republicans and believe in God."
Trying to intelligently argue with that is a waste of time.
Go for it, M! No one does it better.
marisuewrites,
Mrs. Palin vs Joe Biden will be an interesting debate to be sure. I think you are overplaying her negatives, but she is inexperienced and fumbled during her latest interview. Please remember, though, if Biden doesn't show well in the interview, Mrs. Palin will once again be in the spotlight. Her recent demise has much more to do with the dominance of the economic meltdown, than a bad performance in an interview. As for the debate between McCain and Obama, I felt at best it was a draw. Stylistically Obama was much better, but I felt McCain was better on the issues (better in this case meaning more specific). Over all I don't think the debate changed anyone's opinion. McCain has not been able to diminsh Obama's lead and I don't foresee it happening in the future (unless there is some large international crisis). I believe you will get your wish, Obama will be the next president.
Thanks for the hub,
sschilke
I missed her interviews in their entirety live (Oh, she has earned the right to be referred to only by pronoun) but saw clips of them on other various shows and YouTube. Honestly, a bad interview is a bad interview however we try to excuse it. When you are unprepared, it shows.

Marisue, I had lots of similar thoughts last night--thank you for writing about your reactions. I wonder if they will actually let Palin debate Joe Biden. They have to know that there is no way that will help McCain's campaign. I was shocked last night at how rude and surly McCain was. I had a very hard time even listening to him or looking at him. He was so massively rude to Obama. I mean, he doesn't have to come out and hug Obama, but it seemed like he saw him as beneath contempt--you could feel the hate emanating off of McCain. I gotta think that put a lot of folks off. I found it hard to watch.
I hate to even say it but I am actually starting to feel kind of sorry for Palin. Not sorry enough to LIKE her, but still, it's kind of horrifying, watching her fumble and be such a ditz and such a target of ridicule. It's as if, by putting Palin in this harsh spotlight and showing her inadequacy and stupidity to the world he is slapping all women in the face, saying, "See, this all you are: A bunch of dumb vaginas with air between your ears." I'm not saying that makes rational sense--it's just how it feels to me.
I really am starting to hate McCain. I mean, I don't just disagree with him, I'm starting to find him repellent and evil.
Thanks for the hub. We're on the same page with this.
